How to fix Intune Error 80180014 at Autopilot Enrollment

This article guides Intune administrators on understanding and troubleshooting Intune enrollment error 80180014, which can occur when enrolling Windows devices through Windows Autopilot in Microsoft Intune.
During an Intune Autopilot project, our customers encountered the following error during a Windows Autopilot deployment:
Something went wrong
Your account was not set up on this device because device management could not be enabled. This device might not be able to access some resources, such as Wi-Fi, VPN, or email.

Common Causes of Intune Enrollment Error 80180014
Several factors can trigger this error during Windows Autopilot enrollment. Here’s the possible factors and solutions to fix the Intune Error 80180014
Check if device is Corporate or Personnal Owned
If the device is either synced from local AD, is an autopilot device or has its serial number entered in the corporate device identifier it will be marked as corporate
This is important because if you are blocking the enrollment of personnal device (see next point) which is recommended, your enrollment will fail with error 80180014 if it’s marked as Personnal
To check device’s ownership :
Go to Intune Admin Center.
Navigate to Devices > Windows devices
Check if the Ownership status is set to Corporate.
If it’s listed as Personal, manually change it or import the device using Windows Autopilot Device Import.
If personally owned devices are restricted in Intune’s Device Enrollment Restrictions, enrollement process will fail if the device is not recognized as corporate-owned.
Go to Microsoft Intune Admin Center
Go to Devices / Enrollment / Enrollment Device Platform Restrictions
Check your Device type restrictions policy
If necessary, modify the settings to allow personally owned devices.
User enrolling the device has reach its enrollment limit
A standard nonadmin account can only enroll 15 devices in your Tenant by default. At its 16th enrollment the user will get the Intune Error 80180014.
Go to Device / Enrollment / Device Limit Restriction
Check the settings that is configured, modify if needed. It cannot be more than 15 devices. If you are a user enrolling lots of devices, consider adding your user to the Device Enrollement Manager (see next bullet)
To add your user to the Device Enrollment Manager :
Go to Device / Enrollment / Device Enrollment Managers
Add your user there. A DEM account can enroll and manage up to 1,000 devices, while a standard nonadmin account can only enroll 15.
Ensure that you have an Intune License
The user must have a valid Microsoft Intune license assigned. Without it, device enrollment will not proceed and gives Intune Error 80180014.
Go to Users / [Selected User] / Licenses
Device Already Enrolled in Another MDM Solution
If the device was previously managed by another MDM solution (e.g., another Intune tenant or a third-party MDM like Mosyle, Jamf, or VMware Workspace ONE), it may not be eligible for enrollment in the current Intune tenant. Make sure that you unregister the device from the other MDM solution.
Conclusion
After making the above changes to the device restriction policy, wait for a few minutes. Restart the problematic device, and the Windows Autopilot process should be completed without error 80180014.
Error 80180014 often results from enrollment restrictions, ownership settings, or policy misconfigurations in Intune and Microsoft Entra. By adjusting enrollment policies, verifying user permissions, and ensuring the device is properly registered, administrators can resolve this issue and enable successful Windows Autopilot provisioning.
